We understand how important making the lunch decision is. You want to make sure that they eat at lunchtime, what they have is nutritionally balanced and that it fuels the rest of their learning day. If your child is not having school dinners then why not give them a try? They cost just £2.70 for KS2 children and KS1 children eat for free!
NANSLEDAN SCHOOL IS A NUT-FREE SCHOOL
People who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
If someone has a nut allergy it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties). Nansleden School has a duty of care to all our children so needs to have procedures in place to minimise the risk of a severe allergic reaction occurring. First aid staff in the school are trained to use the Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which is required immediately if this happens.
Due to the medical needs of some of our children and the high risk of cross contamination we cannot have nuts in school in any form. So please can we ask that you have no nut products in the lunch boxes or brought into the school as treats.
For example:
- Peanut butter sandwiches
- Chocolate spreads
- Cereal bars
- Some granola bars
- Cakes that contain nuts
- Biscuits / Cookies that contain nuts
- Peanut butter cakes
Some Asian food, including satay sauces that contain nuts This list is not exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely. We appreciate that this is an additional thing to check and we know that you recognise the importance of it. We do have to insist we are a nut free school. If this was your child you would expect that we all help, especially as it is a life-threatening condition.
Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
Not to be confused with the free school meals for all KS1 pupils (as of 1st September 2014), it is vital that all Key Stage 1 pupils who are eligible to claim Free School Meals are registered in order for schools to receive the Pupil Premium funding.
The 'Free Schools Meals Application Form' has been revised and is available as a download below, alternatively please complete the application online. Parents/carers can now complete one application for all of their children – whether it is for Free School Meals (so Year 3 and above who must pay for their school lunches) or for their child’s school to receive Pupil Premium only (i.e. for KS1 children who already receive a free school lunch).
